Corporate Gifting for Bangalore Startups — Small Budgets, Big Impact

How Bangalore startups can run corporate gifting on ₹50,000 budgets with the same impact as larger companies.

Startup gifting has a different constraint from enterprise gifting: the budget is smaller, the headcount changes faster, and the gift is doing brand work as well as goodwill work.

Where to spend (and where not to)

Spend: on a single high-quality signature item (premium notebook, insulated bottle) that the team genuinely uses. Skip: gift bags with 5 generic items totalling the same cost — none of them are remembered.

Single-SKU approach

Pick one great merchandise item. Ship it twice a year (Diwali + company anniversary). Every team member gets the same thing. Budget per unit can go higher because you're buying 2 things a year, not 8.

Cost reference for 30-person Bangalore startup

Diwali: ₹25,000. Anniversary: ₹20,000. Client gifting: ₹5,000. Total annual: ₹50,000. Per-employee per year: ₹1,500. Very doable.

Small quantities cost more per unit — plan around it

Custom branding carries setup costs that do not scale down, so small runs pay a disproportionate share of them. The practical response is to consolidate: order one larger run covering several months of joiners and occasions rather than several small ones. It costs less per unit and it makes what you send consistent, which matters more for a young brand than variety does.

Where a startup should spend

  • Onboarding, because it is the highest-signal moment and the one people photograph and post.
  • A small number of item types done well, rather than a wide range done cheaply.
  • Items that survive being used in public, since that is where the brand exposure actually happens.
  • Packaging, which is disproportionately responsible for how the whole thing is perceived.

Do not order for the headcount you are hoping for

The recurring startup mistake is ordering merchandise for the team size in the plan rather than the one in the office, and then storing the surplus through a change of logo. Order to a horizon you are confident about, and reorder. The unit price on the second run is rarely bad enough to justify the risk of the first one being wrong.
