Fruit is the office pantry line with the shortest patience. Everything else tolerates a delivery slipping by a day; fruit does not, and a basket of over-ripe bananas does more damage to the perception of a pantry than an empty basket would have.
Daily: freshest, highest wastage control (order exact quantity), premium price. Weekly: 15-20% cheaper, bulk-ordering apples, oranges, bananas, pears. Best setup — daily for soft fruits (bananas, grapes, papaya) + weekly for hardy ones.
₹80-₹120/employee/month for a fruit-forward pantry in Bangalore. Consumption 3-4 fruits per employee per week.
The mistake is ordering everything at the same ripeness, which produces a basket that is perfect on Tuesday and unusable by Thursday. Ordering a mix — some ready, some a day or two behind — spreads consumption across the week and cuts waste sharply. It also means the basket looks stocked for longer, which is most of what people are actually judging.
Fruit needs someone to remove what has turned. Without that, one spoiled item accelerates everything next to it and the basket is written off days early. This is a five-minute daily job and the single biggest determinant of whether fruit supply is good value or a recurring waste line.
