Company Jackets and Hoodies: What Weight Works in Bangalore

A Bangalore office jacket is a layer for an air-conditioned floor and a short cool season, not winter wear. How to pick the weight, split the styles, and live with a 50-per-design minimum.

A company jacket in Bangalore is not winter wear. It is a layer for an air-conditioned floor that people put on most of the year, plus a genuinely cool stretch around December and January when both the early commute and the late one bite. That one distinction decides the whole order: a light bonded fleece, a softshell or a zip hoodie as the default for the team, and the quilted and puffer styles bought only for the people who actually travel somewhere cold. OfficeSmart carries more than 80 jacket, hoodie and sweatshirt styles, embroidered or printed with your logo, with a minimum of 50 units per design and a physical sample sent to your Bangalore office before the bulk run.

How cold does Bangalore actually get, and what should you buy for it?

The jackets that end up unworn are almost always bought for a winter the city does not have. Someone pictures a cold month, orders a heavy quilted shell, and then watches it sit in a drawer because the only place anyone is cold is at a desk under a vent. The useful question is not how cold it gets outside but where the layer gets worn, and in a Bangalore office the honest answer is indoors, at a desk, for most of the year.

That points at the lighter end of the range. For most of the year a light bonded fleece, a softshell or a zip hoodie is enough. A windcheater earns its place in the monsoon, which is a rain problem rather than a cold one, and matters most to the people riding two-wheelers in from Whitefield or Electronic City. Quilted and puffer jackets suit the teams who travel north or visit genuinely cold sites, and they are the wrong default for everyone else. Buying the light layer for the floor and the heavy one only for the travellers is cheaper than buying one jacket that half-suits both.

Which style goes to which part of the team?

The range is wider than most buyers expect, and matching the style to how a group actually works beats picking one item for the whole company:

  • Bonded fleece and softshell: the daily desk layer. Worn indoors ten months a year, which makes this the style worth spending on.
  • Zip and pullover hoodies, including heavier 300 GSM options: the ones people wear outside work, which is where a company logo does its quiet work.
  • Crew-neck, hi-neck and turtle-neck sweatshirts: offsites, all-hands and anything with a group photo.
  • Windcheaters: the monsoon commute, and anyone who parks a two-wheeler rather than a car.
  • Quilted and puffer jackets: sales and delivery teams who travel, and site visits somewhere colder than Bangalore.
  • Track and nylon jackets: sports day, the gym, and the annual offsite.

The range includes Adidas, Puma and Reebok styles alongside private-label jackets and hoodies. The branded names read well in a reward or long-service context, where the label is part of the gift. For a bulk logo run the private-label styles are usually the better value, because the budget goes into fabric and embroidery rather than into a second label on the garment.

Why a 50-unit minimum is really 50 per design

This is the number that surprises people, and it is worth getting straight before you start collecting preferences. The minimum for jackets and other premium apparel is 50 units per design. Per design, not per order. A 60-person team that wants a fleece for the office and a windcheater for the riders has not placed a 60-piece order; it has placed two orders of 50, which is 100 pieces, and it will be paying for 40 jackets nobody asked for.

There are three honest ways out of that, and they are all better than discovering the arithmetic after the quote. Pick one style and run it in a full size range, which is what most teams of under a hundred end up doing. Or buy the second style as a ready stock item in a smaller quantity, which some styles allow, so ask rather than assume. Or hold the second style until a date when enough people want it, which usually means folding it into next year's run instead of this one. What does not work is adding a second design late, after the sizes are in, because that is the moment the minimum turns into a budget conversation.

Embroidery or print on a jacket?

Fabric decides this, not preference. Embroidery usually suits fleece, softshell and the heavier jackets, and it looks more premium on them; print suits nylon, windcheaters and large back designs, where stitching would pull or sit badly on a thin technical shell. Logo placement can be on the chest, the sleeve or the back. A jacket is also a longer-lived purchase than a T-shirt, so the decoration has to survive several seasons of wear rather than a dozen washes, which is another reason the heavier styles usually get stitched. Keep the mark restrained if you want it worn on the commute; save a bold back treatment for apparel that is meant as event kit.

How do you collect sizes for something worn over other clothes?

A jacket size run does not behave like a T-shirt size run, because people wear a jacket over a shirt and most of them size up to allow for it. Collecting the sizes off last year's tee order is how you end up with a box of jackets that fit nobody properly. Share the employee list and we collect sizes against it, or we send a size chart and a sample set so people can try the fit before anything is finalised, and each piece can be packed and labelled per employee so nothing has to be sorted on arrival.

The practical discipline is a named list with a deadline and one person chasing it, not an open form. Anyone who has not answered by the cut-off gets the size they wore last time, which is a decision rather than a gap. Send the sample set to people who wear a jacket daily, not to whoever signs the purchase order.

How long does a branded jacket order take?

It depends on the style, the quantity and the branding, and the timeline is confirmed on your quote after the sample is approved. Plan for a few weeks for a large embroidered run. The figures published for cotton tees do not transfer here, so do not work off them: a stitched fleece is a different production line from a printed T-shirt.

The right way to plan is backwards from the date the jackets are meant to be worn, whether that is a December all-hands, an offsite or a sports day. The step that slips is sample sign-off, because it waits on a person rather than a process. Get the style and budget conversation done early, and we come back with options within 24 hours; the clock that matters starts when someone approves the sample, not when the enquiry is sent.

How does it get delivered and invoiced?

Bulk delivery to one office is the simple case, and a Manyata or Hebbal reception can take a pallet of jackets without much ceremony. Where a team is split across offices or working from home, each piece can be dispatched individually anywhere in India with tracking and proof of delivery, which costs more per head but removes the handover problem entirely. Either way the order is billed on one GST tax invoice with the HSN code and the GST rate on every line, and B2B invoices are e-invoiced with an IRN, so procurement reconciles one document rather than a pile. How the spend sits in your books is a question for your own finance team, not for a supplier.

What usually goes wrong

  • A heavy style bought for an imagined winter, worn twice, and remembered as proof that company apparel is a waste.
  • A second design added after the sizes are in, tripping the 50-per-design minimum and the budget with it.
  • Sizes taken from an old T-shirt order rather than collected fresh for a garment worn over other clothes.
  • A sample approved by someone who does not wear a jacket to work, so the fit complaint arrives with the bulk delivery.
  • A bright brand-colour shell that only comes out at events, when a navy or grey one would have been worn all year.
  • Embroidery specified on a thin nylon windcheater, where a print would have sat better and cost less.

Get the weight right and a company jacket is the most durable branding you will buy: worn on the commute, at the airport and on weekends, for years, by people nobody asked. Get it wrong and it is an expensive drawer liner. The decision is made before the logo is drawn, in the choice between a layer for an air-conditioned floor and a coat for a winter that never arrives.
